On Saturday I enjoyed the graces and blessing that are bestowed through the sacrament of Penance. Today we attended the 9:00 am Mass at our parish, Sacred Heart Catholic church. There I prayed for the intentions of those with special needs and intentions, including my own. In Preparation of receiving the most sacred Host, the body and blood of our savior, Jesus Christ, I made an Act of Contrition.
Upon my knees with Jesus making His way into my heart, I focused on Him. Giving thanks for all His many blessings, I made a special intention. Then I prayed for His message to all of us saying: “Speak Lord (always and only if it be His will), Your servant listens.”
Jesus spoke these words, a message for all of us:
“My child Eileen, whenever you resist a temptation in spite of the satisfaction it promises to bring to you or a loved one in order to remain faithful to Me, know that this is when I will be beside you holding your hand. Fear not, for I AM always with you.
Go in peace to love and serve the Lord. Continue to pray for your brothers and sisters. Amen.”
Note: Often whenever Jesus provides us with a strong message or the words alone do not provide a full understanding, Jesus opens my heart to a deeper understanding. Such was the case with this message of today.
Often I have felt that when in pain, it was a good idea to offer up my pain to Jesus. To suffer for and with Him. Today Jesus opened my heart to understand that when we suffer (such as arthritis, bad back, broken bones etc.), there is simply no way to be removed from the pain. Therefore the offering may be a just a bit shallow. In other words, it is similar to giving away something we do not need, or a new pair of ill- fitting shoes.
However, when we avoid a strong temptation that promises great satisfaction and/or comfort for the sake of remaining faithful to Jesus, that is when our heart bleeds with love for Him. When we sin in order to please someone else, we place Jesus last.
